Lignosulphonates (E565): What It Is and Is It Safe?
Lignosulphonates are water-soluble polymers recovered from wood during sulfite pulping, used as binders, dispersants and carriers. In the digestive tract they are poorly absorbed owing to their large molecular size and pass through largely intact. No credible evidence of harm exists at the low levels used in food, and lignosulphonate has an established history of use as a pelleting binder in animal feed.
