Guaiac Resin (E314): What It Is and Is It Safe?

Antioxidant
Guaiac resin, or gum guaiac, is a natural resin from the wood of Guaiacum trees, used as an antioxidant to slow rancidity in fats and oils. It is not authorised as a food additive in the EU or GB, although it is listed internationally under Codex INS 314 and has been evaluated by JECFA. Its antioxidant action comes from phenolic constituents of the resin.
