Monosodium Phosphate (E339I): What It Is and Is It Safe?
Moderate
Acidity Regulator / Stabiliser
The mono-acidic sodium salt of phosphoric acid (NaH₂PO₄). Used to adjust pH in processed foods and as a buffering agent. Like all added phosphates, high cumulative dietary phosphate from processed foods is linked to kidney strain and cardiovascular risk, particularly in people with pre-existing kidney conditions. Healthy individuals metabolise normal food-level exposure without issue.
