Glycerol Esters of Wood Rosin (E915): What It Is and Is It Safe?
Glycerol esters of wood rosin (ester gum) are made by esterifying purified pine-wood rosin with glycerol, used to glaze citrus fruit and, as EU additive E445, to stabilise and weight citrus-oil emulsions in soft drinks. EFSA re-evaluated the additive in 2018 and found no safety concern at reported use levels, confirming an acceptable daily intake. It is poorly absorbed and not genotoxic.
