Thiabendazole (E233): What It Is and Is It Safe?
Systemic benzimidazole fungicide applied post-harvest to citrus fruit and bananas. Unlike biphenyl and phenylphenol, thiabendazole is absorbed into the fruit and can be detected in the flesh, not just the skin. Residue limits are strictly regulated, but those using large quantities of zest should wash fruit very thoroughly. Thiabendazole is also used as a pharmaceutical antiparasitic in humans and animals, indicating significant biological activity.
