Magnesium Gluconate (E580): What It Is and Is It Safe?
Magnesium gluconate is the magnesium salt of gluconic acid, used as a firming agent and acidity regulator and as a well-absorbed source of dietary magnesium. It is metabolised to magnesium and gluconate, both normal body constituents. It is low in toxicity; like other magnesium salts, only intakes far above food levels produce an osmotic laxative effect.
