Sodium silicate is a soluble silicate used as an anti-caking agent and stabiliser to keep powdered products free-flowing. Silicates pass through the gut largely unabsorbed, and silicon is not accumulated to a harmful degree from food. No credible evidence of harm exists at the levels used in food.
