Esters of lactic acid and fatty acids combined with glycerol and propane-1,2-diol, used as emulsifiers and aerating agents. They hydrolyse in the gut to fatty acids, glycerol, lactic acid and propylene glycol, all normal metabolites. The US FDA authorises them under 21 CFR 172.850.
