Fast Green FCF (E143): What It Is and Is It Safe?

Fast Green FCF is a synthetic triarylmethane dye, authorised in the US as FD&C Green No. 3 but not permitted as a food colour in the EU/UK. IARC places it in Group 3, not classifiable as to carcinogenicity, and the JECFA/WHO review found it has low toxicity and is not carcinogenic or genotoxic. It is poorly absorbed from the gut.
